The Andes Map video installation anchors the entrance to the Hall of the Americas at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, introducing visitors to the civilizations that shaped South America. Presented on a 4K LED display over two meters (6.5 feet) tall, the installation transforms a static map into a living timeline—tracing the rise, expansion, and convergence of empires across the Andes region.
Conceived as both an educational and visual experience, the piece brings clarity to centuries of cultural evolution through shifting maps, layered transparencies, and animated timelines. Beginning with a continental view and gradually focusing on the Andes, the animation captures how geography and civilization intertwine. Designed in collaboration with the museum’s exhibit team, the installation serves as a striking prelude to the gallery—immersing visitors in the story of the Americas before they take their first step inside.
